“I had a bilateral knee replacement by Dr. Richard Hulsey. I’ve had trouble with both knees since I was a child, and when I was pregnant with twins, gained weight, and grew older, the pain became unbearable and limited what I could do. It was common for me to fall at least three to four times a year with many more near-misses as I managed to catch myself before I hit the ground. Over the years, I’ve had a broken ankle, a sprained ankle, a hairline fracture, and a torn meniscus that resulted in surgery. By the time I saw Dr. Hulsey, I had exhausted other treatment, and I was getting to the point that I would avoid going out other than to work.
Dr. Hulsey was recommended to me by another orthopedic surgeon whose father had a knee replacement by Dr. Hulsey and whose outcome was fantastic. I was confident that I had an experienced and proficient surgeon. His demeanor is friendly. He listens and answers questions in a way I can understand them. I never felt as if I had to talk fast.
I am now able to do simple things that people take for granted walking up and down stairs without pain – and without the need to hold on to a rail or a person for support. I can take steps with my full weight on either leg. Although I was told not to squat, I can bend enough to get lower and put pressure on my knees to pick things up, which makes it easier on my back.
My balance is better than ever, and I feel stable and secure when I walk without the constant worry about falling.
I am so very thankful that I was able to have both replaced at the same time. Although challenging, it wasn’t as bad as I had heard. At the age of 62, I feel better than I have in decades, and I can enjoy life and my grandchildren more fully!”

I was extremely pleased that Dr. Hulsey did not want to drag it out and run me through more tests are keep me out of work longer. However, I believe that if he thought something was going on, he would have it checked out and the problem and it would have got addressed with all due diligence. “I've seen Dr. Hulsey since about 2004-2005. He did knee surgery on me in 2012. it went excellent. He did shoulder surgery on me. I think it was 2005 or 6. It went excellent. He's looked at me for other injuries. As a large animal veterinarian, I get banged up sometimes, and he's always treated me with respect, especially being another medical professional. Even though my animals are four-legged, he's very good at what he does, and he's very knowledgeable. I would send anybody to him. Honestly, I can't brag enough about him, and he's going to do surgery on my girlfriend's mom's hip here soon. He also had surgery on my girlfriend's shoulder in 2021, and everything's always been good. He's very professional and just very down-to-earth.”
